What causes shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain can come from many different incidents and issues. Sports injuries are a very common cause, but they are not the only ones. Your shoulder might also hurt due to dislocations, repetitive strain injuries, poor posture, lifting heavy items, rotator cuff injuries, and more. Additionally, sometimes shoulder pain doesn’t start in the shoulder. It can be due to an issue in the back or neck.

What do you mean by repetitive strain?

A repetitive strain injury occurs from repeating the same motions over and over again. Most often, these occur in sports or specific work tasks. Some common types of repetitive strain injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, and golfers or tennis elbows.

Can chiropractic care help?

Chiropractic treatment is a very effective method for treating pain and conditions throughout the musculoskeletal system – including shoulder pain. A significant part of this effect is due to addressing the root cause of the pain, not just masking the symptoms. After a thorough diagnosis, our chiropractor will determine the best course of treatment to not only bring you relief but also treat the cause of the pain.

What types of chiropractic treatment are available for shoulder pain?

The chiropractic treatment techniques used depend specifically on your condition, although chiropractic adjustments are often at the core of each treatment plan. Chiropractic adjustments are essential to musculoskeletal health, as they ensure that everything is properly aligned. When a misalignment is present, it can lead to many issues and injuries, so alignment is key. Other techniques typically used include soft tissue therapy, corrective exercises, myofascial release, cold laser therapy, trigger point therapy, and more.

Is there anything I can do at home to reduce shoulder pain?

Our chiropractor can help walk you through techniques to reduce pain in-between visits. These typically include targeted stretches and exercises, rest, and heat and ice therapy.
